What’s On?

Members meet regularly for work mornings to maintain the Orchard. If you would like to find out more about becoming a member then please get in touch with us via the contact page. New members are always welcome.

Why not call in on one of our work sessions to find out more. You can stay as long or as little as you like, we don’t have an official end time for our sessions. We are always pleased to welcome visitors and to talk about the Orchard.  You can find out the dates and times of our sessions below.

Next Orchard Meeting: all members welcome

Thursday 24th September 2026, 7.30 at the Black Bull. Everyone welcome.  

WORK SESSIONS: We are now meeting twice a month. 

July 2026
Saturday 25th: 2.00 pm start
August 2026
Saturday 8th: 9.30 am start

 

We always have a coffee break half way through so don’t forget your flask there is usually a homemade biscuit or cake to share!

As the year progresses there may be more sessions so keep an eye on our WhatsApp group.

Jobs to do in the Orchard: If you can’t make the above sessions, you are always welcome to go up at any time to do some jobs…

  • General tidying and weeding, including all of the fruit beds, including the rhubarb plot and the triangular fruit bed beside it.
  • Grass cutting. Please wear gloves and appropriate footwear if you are using the mowers.  You must have been trained to use the mowers before taking them out for the first time.
  • For all other current jobs please take a look at the blackboard on the shed by the forest garden.

Natural Weaving Workshop: Saturday 26th September 2026

Anna is a basket maker who loves making string and who works almost entirely with plants local to where she lives in Northumberland.  These may be wild or cultivated, from moors and meadows, woods and gardens.  They include leaves and stems, grasses, rushes, roots, moss, straw and bark.  The plants all have their stories to tell and directions to follow.  Anna has come to basketry after many years of organic gardening.  She brings a deep love of plants, and respect for the natural world to her work, which is rooted in and responsive to the landscape.  She is fascinated by the relationships between people and plants and sees basketry as a way of exploring and deepening these connections. Coffee Morning Lanchester Methodist Church 10.00 – 12.00 am Saturday 3rd October 2026

We’d be grateful for volunteers to help with the coffee morning and donations of cakes and biscuits would be much appreciated. If you are coming along to help please can you be at the Methodist Church for 9.30 am.

Apple Picking and Juicing Day: Saturday 10th October 2026

It looks like it will be another good year for apples. If you are a member of the Orchard and would like some apples and apple juice, please bring a box and bottles with you.
